Worth reading.

NATO has been complicit, as we know, and is now in full on righteous intransigence, while the west's leaders consign the massive collateral damage of the past 2 years to the memory hole as they eagerly assume their latest role as freedom fighters.

'Follow the science' has been replaced by Isolate the Russian monster.

Meanwhile the hapless Ukrainians suffer and a mass movement of people is underway at the western border.

Yes, this a terrible humanitarian tragedy.

Not really.

All I have seen is a few extras from Sandy Hook posing for the cameras with plywood guns in hand, or ochre-stained bandages skilfully applied.

They probably wanted to leave anyway, and this has given them the ideal opportunity to do so.

It is recorded that tens of thousands of Ukrainian medical staff have left the country since 2008 - during a period of no obvious conflict, except in the east, of course.

And now anybody wishing to avail themselves of the freedom to leave Ukraine - whose services are all still working as well as they ever did - can now do so visa-free.

And note how Zelensky now wants all Ukraine's long term issues settled by a cancelling of the $57 billion state debt.

There are few issues which cannot be manipulated by the crafty to bring unanticipated benefits.

I'll worry about the invasion on the Ukrainian border right after the one that's currently occuring on my OWN border gets squared away. Hundreds of thousands of unidentified military-aged males have been willfully dumped all over the U.S. in just one year... 🤔🤔🤔

Excellent piece, which reflects much of what has been discussed here.

O how I wish the west's movers and shakers would stop with the sloganising, the virtue signalling and the blatant hypocrisy: economies, lives and livelihoods have been systematically trashed over the past two years, accompanied by an intransigent refusal to engage with any of the Russian leadership's legitimate concerns .

Simplistic demonisation is so much simpler- anti vaxxers anybody?

Now the Ukraine is a war zone and the west faces mounting economic hardship, while here in Blighty our leaders have just awarded themselves a generous pay rise.

Are there any truly trustworthy rational politicians left to negotiate an acceptable settlement and stop the bloodshed?

I generally speaking agree with everything said here.

However, it is obvious surely that Putin has made a strategic error, which given his own and other nations' recent experience in Afghanistan and elsewhere, he should have avoided.

This mistake is that military blitzkreig is never a solution to long term issues.

Assuming VVP manages to surround every city in Ukraine and "denazify" and demilitarize it, he then says he will then withdraw - and what do you think will happen the moment he does that?

Correct.

You cannot tie your nation down to a decades-long native insurgency, which is what he will face long term in Ukraine - which will now be all the more eager to join NATO and align with the dumkopf EU and its brain dead globalist apparatchiks.

He should simply have started off as he did by recognizing the DPR / LPR, and then investing his forces to drive the Ukrainians out of their territory - including the territory occupied by Ukraine.

He would have had the full and unconditional support of the people to do this.

Alongside this tactical move, he could have seized the Crimea's water supply from the Ukrainians, as he has done, and expanded the borders of that entity and for that reason alone.

But as it is, he is now talking about bombing Ukrainian cities, and inevitably, many innocent persons will die during this endeavour, "precision weapons" notwithstanding.

And as we know, public perception is everything in these things, and the western media will have a field day with "evil Vlad" because of these collateral issues.

Excellent assessment of this unfortunate but apparently necessary predicament. I shared it with the comment that when honesty is ditched, greed reigns supreme and honor is tossed out the window. I try to remind all those mesmerized by the mass media sentiment to recall the last time Americans were sucked into a war using phony weapons of mass destruction. Who can forget how we all were wooed by the bomb blasts and explosive sounds of “Shock and Awe”?

Also worth reading: much of our wondrously impartial MSM is now in shouty Russia bashing mode.

Debate has no place in our febrile affairs : it's a simplistic ' us or them'; a depressing exemplar of the emotional incontinence which now trumps informed dissent and rational analysis.

When a globalist like Soros urges the West to help Ukraine, you know that something is not right and there is the appearance of all this being planned by the West.

Expand full comment

This just in from the Kremlin.

"Any missile launch within 200 km of the borders of the Russian Federation will be viewed as potentially targeted at our territory, and a decision will be taken on whether to immediately respond in kind.

We urge our western colleagues not to engage in such provocations, because if we make the wrong decision, and your missile was not targeting us, then you will have some very irate citizens of the territories under your jurisdiction to explain the situation to."

Russia must become much more proactive in its pronouncements; the time for adopting victim status has ended.

Expand full comment

Surely it is not beyond the combined brainpower of Putin, Lavrov, Shoigu, Medvedev - and even, God forbid, Maria Zakharova - to realise that whatever the west does with its military alliance, Russia can do too.

So if they want to station missiles on Russia's borders, then Russia will reciprocate, whilst simultaneously stating that launch criteria are now that the moment a launch is detected from anywhere on Russia's borders, she will immediately reciprocate, irrespective of whether that launch was intended or not.

Time is of the essence, and by adopting their reckless military adventurism, the west is reducing its own collective security.

Russia seems to always adopt the posture of aggrieved victim, whereas it should learn that it is no such thing.

Assuming she were to take control of Ukraine, then effectively, she would have moved her borders westwards, and she will therefore still face hostile military intent, whether from Poland, or any of the other lapdog western kleptocracies.

Very good Vasko. I appreciate that you don't feel it necessary to put in the ubiquitous caveat, "I think that Putin's invasion of Ukraine is horrible and he should be punished," as oh so many commenters find the need to say.
